The 37 best places to stay in Torquay (2024)

The Headland Hotel is a luxurious 3-star hotel situated on the beachfront in Torquay. It offers stunning sea views, a friendly staff and nice breakfast.

My husband and I stay here regularly for a night away! Their Sunday cream tea deal is amazing. The staff are so welcoming and friendly. The food is good and the views are incredible.

Very friendly staff, food was delicious and well portioned, the running of the restaurant was superb, food on table very quickly. Hydro pool was nice, loved the cold one!Bad points, parking, totally ridiculous for disabled, not enough spots, even for able bodied parking, our room was a bit small. expected a bit more as we paid extra for an upgrade, but generally a lovely hotel with fantastic views

We visited for the day on the Lazy day for locals deal. This, by the way is open for non residents. The hotel views are breathtaking and the interior of the hotel is beautifully presented. We enjoyed a pot of tea upon arrival and then use of the Hydra pools (4 pools, two the same with a jet stream on / off option type wave to allow swimming in a fast current to build muscles or even stand in the jets to massage tired muscles, there was also two seating areas at the other end of this pool with massage jets, one pool is a cool dip from the sauna and another a very warm jacuzzi type pool) complex with sauna and steam room. The pool complex is new and modern with seating through the pool doors should you wish to sit outside during your pool experience also loungers are in the pool area. There are two large lockable changing areas, one of which is disabled aided, separate toilet and spa treatment room. There are a small number of lockers but have seen better days and only a few have keys, so maybe leave valuables in the car.We had pre booked an afternoon tea for two which was beautifully presented and delicious. This felt like a decadent treat for the day, nothing felt rushed during the day and the day started at 10am until 5pm or whenever you felt like arriving. The staff are friendly and very helpful with nothing too much trouble type of attitude and attention to detail. This reminded me of an hotel of days gone by with wonderful attention to detail.

Amazing overnight stay. Booked a standard room. Extremely comfortable for the price. Booked evening meal. Was lovely. Service was great. Did find the extra £10 charge for the steak a bit extreme but this is my personal opinion. The spa was well worth the extra charge of £10. Very relaxing and made the most of it. The views from the terrace were beautiful although the sun helped. Weather was lovely.Staff were extremely good, hard working and couldn't do enough for you. A credit to your hotel and should be acknowledged. We were in room 148 and will definitely be returning.Thank you for a wonderful stay.Sheila CoxMonty Graham.

Lovely hotel. Fantastic and friendly staff in all areas. Really made to feel welcome by all. All staff we came across were a real credit to the hotel. Food was very nice also. Would be a 5 star stay but the hydro pool area was a little disappointing as not all of the jets were working and it was quite full so we were standing around waiting some of the time.

We stayed in a room with our dog. Lovely rainfall shower in the en-suite. Comfy bed.

Excellent holiday, very lucky with the weather this week (3rd to 7th September 2023, four nights), the Concierge was very helpful, carried our luggage to our room, from our car, and spent some time with us, walking us around the ground floor, and showing us where everything we needed was. The first evening, we dined in the main restaurant, which doubles up as the breakfast room, we had a delightful three. Course meal, a co*cktails, and tea and Irish coffee to finish. It was a bit pricey, but worth it. Our waiter, Justin, made us feel welcome, and assisted us with our choices. We were given a voucher for one of the drinks, he made sure it covered the most expensive of them.We were given a free upgrade on our room, which meant we had a sea view, and were able to watch the surfers and swimmers in the sea, as the Fistral Beach is famous for surfing with surf boards. The hotel has its own surf board hire and lessons available, which was interesting to watch. If I’d been younger, I would have had a go!There are car charging points in the car park, although electric cars take priority over plug In hybrid cars, for obvious reasons. You need an account to use them.Newquay is within walking distance, although there are short term car parks should you need them.Everyone seems relaxed, no cross words heard anywhere.I would recommend this hotel to anyone who is looking for an upmarket experience.

Had such an amazing weekend away at the headland hotel and spa. The staff were all very friendly and caring. The food was lovely and great service. Very good value and great spa facilities. Highly recommend.

Stayed mid May on a Monday to Friday Coach Holiday.Three coaches were staying here this week and the staff handled us with ease. Friendly, efficient, professional. The restaurant managed to serve us all, breakfast was buffet style - always plentiful and fresh, 3 course dinner with 3 or 4 choices - extremely tasty meals and different each evening.Entertainment on 3 evening was OK, the magician was very good. The rooms were large, clean and comfortable - the shower was not the best, it takes a long time to get hot water and there's not a lot of pressure but overall it is fine.Would stay here as choice if we visit Torquay again.

I can't comment on the rooms as I didn't stay. I had an afternoon tea there. Which was a total debacle. Took an hour for us to be served our sandwiches. We were sadly ignored by all of the staff. No one came to the table after they seated us and gave us a cup each. Very bad experience and it came so highly recommended. Shame but we won't be going back. I hope others have a better experience then we did as it looks like an amazing hotel with a great view.

We stayed here on a two night spa break which was incredibly good value for money bought through the hotel's website. We couldn't believe our luck at finding such a gem and will definitely be returning in the future. The hotel is situated in a wonderful spot with fab views, especially if you get a room with a sea view. Ours wasn't, but the family room we were in was very spacious. The whole place has been recently refurbished and is in great condition. The hotel staff were all lovely and so helpful. We forgot our phone charger and they managed to find one that we could borrow for the length of our stay. The inclusive dinner in the restaurant was very nice and the service was excellent. The scones in the cream tea were warm and fresh and the breakfast was one of the best that we've ever had, from the selection to the quality of the food. We also had full use of the fantastic hydro spa facilities which include a sauna and steam room and our inclusive treatments with the wonderful Greg were blissful. What a wonderful place to recharge our batteries! Huge thanks to the wonderful staff here- we will definitely be back xx

Central to Torquay area with great views.Service at the bar and late check in was great and can’t fault the team.Location is good for anyone wanting to get into Torquay easily.Good value for money to an extent -Room was a bit basic and dated and was very very warm ? ManagedTo get the windows fully open and a strange smell of chlorine seemed to disappear.

Right here goes an honest, unbiased review..Good points ...Staff excellent , each and every one of them well done 👏Location beautiful.Piano playing in intervals was specialElegant diningMeals were all amazingset evening meal approx £26.95 for a starter ,main and dessert all gorgeous..Breakfast is a hot buffet style .. pastries, yoghurts, fruit, porridge, toast ,cereals, and you can eat as much as you like great value, so go bed and breakfast you won't regret it. All notch cannot fault.Attentive staff in restaurant..Housekeeping excellent..Scottish Piper overlooked the sea playing as we left. It was a beautiful and lovely thing to witnessCommunal areas of the hotel are lovely and cleanThere is a small lift and a stair lift availableThe patio area is lovelyThe female vocalist we saw was very, very goodMake sure you visit co*ckington Forge so lovely to see talented craftsmen and women ..The park ,church , walled garden thatched properties , coffee shops, and pub parking are available..Now, not so good points ..Although beautiful location and lovely walk down to the harbouryou will need some stamina to walk back up ..On arrival we were "upgraded " to a club room yes the view was stunning but when we actually saw the standard room it knocked spots off our room..I don't understand for a upgrade it felt more like a down grade 😔 il explain why ..2 single beds pushed together together ..headboard only fitted one half ?Furniture very dated .. whereby in standard rooms quite modern? bathroom very dated alsowhich is such a crying shame because with the view that room could be absolutely stunning ...The toilet was below a window with blind lots of the blind slats were missing hence my partner had a full view of people down in the bar each time ..(Good job, no one looked up, ha ha )The lampshade on the bedside table was not attached, just balanced on top ..If you want to use the spa, it's £10 each every time that you want to use it ..it is not included ..Although the hydro pools were nice, there were cups left in the drinks compartments .. the lockers are absolutely awful and let it down dramatically. Not a single one was decent it is such a shame this is being overlooked ..The 3 changing rooms are quite large with a shower insideThere are no individual changing rooms ..The plunge pool controls are way too hard to setBut the rest are OK and very relaxing ..Sauna available ,unfortunately the steam room was out of order but price was reduced according ..The parking can be an issue if you don't get a space the walk from down road would be difficult with cases etc ..

Starting with the positives: Close to some beaches within walking distance and beautiful views. Most of the staff were friendly, particularly the breakfast staff who were nothing but accommodating to us eating in the lobby with our dog.The hotel is dog friendly, and the decor is largely lovely. Particularly the lobby area.Parking is limited, but we did not struggle getting a space during our stay (mid-week in March). EV charging is currently 50p pkwh.Breakfast was mostly tasty, although some items are left out too long, namely the fried eggs. There was an issue with the room we had booked via Secret Escapes and bringing a dog. They messaged us back to let us know we had been downgraded to accommodate the dog, but struggled to understand that we still needed refunding for the room price difference. Which we have not had and need to do this via Secret Escapes. We found being downgraded a surprise as there was still availability for the larger dog friendly rooms on their website. The biggest let down was our room.Due to the downgrade, we were given a room in the basem*nt by the boiler room. Our room and unsuite has no windows, just the slim double door leading to the garden, which was handy for taking the dog out to do her business. Our room was incredibly hot. Particularly the bathroom which felt around 30 degrees. We mentioned this on day 1, again on day 2 and twice on day 3.We were in the room when their new maintenance staff came to take a look.He said 'oh god, that's hot' and agreed to take a look later, along with the door handle which had fallen off.Whilst we were out, the door handle had been replaced, but our bathroom remained unbearable. Nothing else was done about this.Had we been staying longer than the 3 nights, we would have changed hotels.Given that we had no windows, we couldn't get any air into the room, and couldn't leave the door open due to the dog running out.We had a slight issue with our room neighbours, as they kept letting their dogs into the garden off lead, and kept coming to our doors, where our dog watched out. There were countless altercations at the door, which I needed to keep picking our dog up and shutting the curtains. Trapping the hot air inside, as the draft from the door was no longer able to circulate.I would have liked to see the lead policy enforced in the garden area, to avoid this happening.Due to this, our dog was also unable to sleep through the night as she felt the need to keep watch.Cleanliness was also not the best in our room, the limescale build-up around the taps was disgraceful and countless dog hairs and bits in the carpet.Note: the room we stayed in is nothing like even the standard room listed on the website. The room was cramped, no windows, furniture was old and damaged, insufficient plug sockets by the bed, 1 lamp, TV was inappropriately positioned- powered via an extension cable, decor was not as pictured and bathroom is not modern as pictured on the website. All this made worse blas we had not even booked a standard room... we stayed in less than standard room, which is not listed on their website.3 stars for a 3 star hotel on the whole, but I would never stay in the room we did again.

Great value for money. Location is perfect with Torquay town centre being easily reached on foot. Access to a coastal path right on the hotels doorstep gave stunning views of the bay. The hotel is well equipped, and I found the facilities, food and drink were great and reasonably priced. Breakfast was invited and the selection was amazing, toast, cereals, fried food and continental options were all available at the buffet style spread. The only negative, which can't be helped, is that the property comes with the inevitable issue that big, old buildings have in that it makes noises - squeaky floorboards and banging doors. So if you are a light or easily disturbed sleeper then consider this when booking. It did not disturb my stay, however, and I would happily return to this hotel

I cannot speak highly enough of Owen, Connor and the whole team at The Headland Hotel. A big heartfelt thankyou to you all.We had our wedding here in May 2024 and from first meeting through to the day and beyond - they were exceptional. We booked because from the outset, Owen made us feel so welcome and was giving us so many helpful tips, we knew we could trust him and the team with such an important day.The day went without a hitch, the team being on hand for anything we needed and the food was beautiful - every guest enjoyed themselves and we have the best memories. Many booked rooms and said they were comfy, we had the main suite and the bath in their was HUGE.We have already been back to enjoy lunch (food was again splendid!) and spa facilities.HIGHLY RECOMMEND.For visitors to the Devon area, you have stunning views, gardens and a veranda to enjoy with lush coastal walks and the whole riviera nearby.

This hotel is so beautiful, we came here after staying at another hotel in Torquay that was really disappointing. (TLH Derwent)Firstly the location is stunning, looking over the sea. From the start of our stay the staff were really lovely, Paige on the front desk helped us when our booking of a family room did not go through, she was new but really lovely. The dinner is so tasty, all cooked fresh and served so hot and quickly. The breakfast buffet is set out really well with good quality sausages and plum tomatoes as well as fried! Everyone in the restaurant was lovely (Liz and Abbey)The pool is lovely and the atmosphere at the hotel is calming and lovely, do not hesitate to book you will not regret it.I have to bring the following to the hotels attention. Please read carefully.I was going to leave a 5 star review with no negatives however the end of our stay was ruined by one disgruntled and extremely rude member of staff her name is Sue, she was the chambermaid on our floor, she has white hair and a miserable approach to customers, Owen the manager needs to sit her down and speak to her about how her attitude will ultimately let the rest of the hotel down.Check out is at 10 which I did not realise, as usually check out is at 11. I went to breakfast at 9:05 with my 3 year old son, I smiled a big smile at Sue the first time I saw her, she looked at me miserably and barked at me 'departure is at 10' like a robot, I politely said we are just going for breakfast now and will be out as quickly as possible, to which she looked at me up and down with disgust and repeated herself 'departure is at 10 am' very rudely. I even said out loud wow she is rude to my son.I came back to my room at 9:45 am and quickly finished packing. My son is potty training and was trying to go, I was desperate for a shower so had a 5 min shower and needed the toilet, Sue was banging on my door going departure is at 10!!! (Bearing in mind she had not even cleaned all the other rooms on my floor yet) The older couple opposite my room left their room at 10:30 and they said 10 is way too early and we will leave when we are ready. Sue was not giving them a hard time... Why are they different to us?I packed, showered, got my beautiful son ready and was out of the door just before 11 am, Sue was ready for an argument, she had not even started cleaning the room opposite me, saying she was going to get the manager Owen and he would deal with us! Whatever that means?? Sue then pushed passed me on the stairs, and I said to her are you really going to make this a problem please dont!We then started having an argument. Sue just would not see that I was a human being, a young mother on my own with a little boy and I am not a rude person!Luckily a staff member Tammy was there and was trying to calm Sue down, Sue clearly has problems, and should not take it out on customers! I understand checkout was at 10 but we were not the only customers on that floor that were late to checkout, she wanted to start an argument with me!Sue just ruined the end of our stay. Tammy gave me a hug and was really apologetic on Sues behalf as I started getting really emotional.Sue if your reading this, please understand that customers are humans who are paying to stay at the hotel, I understand your frustration but you had not even cleaned the rooms that were empty. If you continue to act this way you will be out of a job. Do better. How dare you push pass me on the stairs when I was carrying heavy bags and watching my son, you should be truly ashamed of yourself. Whatevers going on on your own life, don't take it out on the customers of this amazing hotel. Your letting the whole team down! My son even said that woman was so horrible Mummy, he's 3 and half and a good judge of character and I'm glad I modelled to him what standing up for yourself looks like.

Beautiful hotel with a lot of history, previously owned by the Romanovs...Had a locals spa day, £29 per person, quiet and relaxing and discount towards spa treatments...Also inclued is a voucher £14 towards lunch, stunning views sitting outside, weather permitting. Highly enjoyable meals and big thank you for the birthday plate, lovely gesture.🥳

Value for money Hotel in lovely location. Receptionist, bar staff and chambermaids all very friendly and welcoming. Breakfast was delicious! Only small gripe was the bathroom which was dusty, not particularly clean and shower either boiling hot or cold.Otherwise, very happy with what we paid and service we received.

My partner and I stayed with you for 1 night as a treat to have a night away just us without kids or dogs!! It did not disappoint!! The man on reception was so welcoming, helpful and all round lovely guy! Our room was just amazing, we were in the Tatiana room. The spa was so relaxing, our favourite was the steam room!! Went here for afternoon tea for 2. All staff were warm and welcoming, the tea itself was gorgeous. Warm scones, 4 different sandwiches fillings and 5 different sweet treat cakes each. All beautifully fresh and presented in 3 tier stand. Great table looking out over the sea in TorbayWill definitely visit again

I'm in a cozy tiny room at the back, it's cheap and cheerful, comfy bed , Quiet small but all I need, and what I chose. There are bigger rooms.and view rooms, but I just need a sleepy room :) and a hot shower after a lot of traveling.Beautiful location and views and good food at I think affordable prices.Staff are helpful and good at their job, even as understaffed with a coach tour group.tour group were retirement age and nobody in a rush, which makes it all so much better.Ps guests read the room:) if 40 people walk in at once.....stuff is gonna take longer , thankfully the staff and guests all did their but perfect.Very friendly would come back 100%

We had a wonderful Christmas lunch here as non-residents ( in the hotel not Torquay!) . Thank you so much to the fantastic team who went out of their way to make the day so special for everyone. It was a very slick operation so well done to the restaurant manager and his team for the attention to detail. We arrived early and wanted to settle with a drink first at our table., our starters immediately arrived but they were swiftly withdrawn while we enjoyed an aperitif. The team were happy to serve each course as and when we wished timing wise, it was very relaxed and all the food was delicious. Thank you all for an enjoyable time and well done maître d’ for completing a busy lunch service to then host the bingo !!
